Job Description

The Service Center Supervisor serves as a key liaison between the laboratory and its client base, ensuring clear communication and high-quality service delivery. This role is responsible for supervising and scheduling laboratory technicians, maintaining efficient workflow and staffing coverage. The supervisor performs water Microbiology and Wet Chemistry analysis and ensures timely processing of samples. In addition, this position supports the development of staff by cross-training technicians across all areas of the laboratory to promote versatility and operational continuity. Responsibilities also include coordinating the receipt and shipment of samples to external laboratories, ensuring proper handling, documentation, and compliance with applicable procedures and timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the laboratory and clients, ensuring timely communication, issue resolution, and high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily activities of laboratory technicians to maintain efficient workflow and meet turnaround times.
  • Perform and/or oversee selected water Microbiology and Wet Chemistry analysis to ensure sample integrity and compliance with required timelines.
  • Train and cross-train laboratory technicians in all areas of the lab to ensure operational flexibility and consistency in procedures.
  • Monitor staff performance, provide guidance, and support ongoing development and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate the receipt, login, handling, and tracking of incoming samples in accordance with established protocols.
  • Prepare and ship samples to external laboratories, ensuring proper packaging, documentation, and compliance with regulatory and shipping requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation for all laboratory and service center activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting workflow issues and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments and external partners to support laboratory operations.

Ability and/or Skills (BMQ):

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and internal staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory operations, sample handling procedures, and quality control practices.
  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and short hold time analyses.
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry, documentation, and sample tracking.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and standard computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to enforce compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Ability to train and cross-train staff across multiple laboratory functions.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Chemistry/Sciences (Business Management, Marketing, or
    equivalent experience may substitute for degree)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years bench leve
