Position Overview:
Cardozo School of Law seeks a strategic and collaborative Senior Director to ensure that graduate students (domestic and international) receive an excellent legal education. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Graduate & International Programs. Working closely with the Associate Dean, the Senior Director will oversee academic advising, program administration, student support, and other projects as assigned in support of achieving enrollment goals. This role demands excellent decision-making acumen, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to teach law courses, aligning with Cardozo’s mission to prepare students for impactful legal careers.
Position Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Strategy:
- Oversee the implementation and evaluation of Graduate & International Programs, including the LL.M., Exchange, and Visiting Research programs, ensuring alignment with Cardozo’s academic excellence and bar eligibility requirements (e.g., New York). Serve as the primary contact on campus for all Cardozo non-JD students and scholars.
- Establish and maintain continued, effective communication with faculty, staff, Centers, and graduate students of Cardozo to advance the objectives of the Office of Graduate & International Programs.
- Support the Dean’s strategic vision for the LL.M. programs by implementing initiatives to elevate the student experience and uphold academic excellence in Graduate & International programs.
Student Support and Advising:
- Provide academic and professional advising to LL.M. and international students, guiding them on bar eligibility and career paths in areas of their interest; J.D. students on study abroad options; and Visiting Research Scholars on their auditing options and contact with faculty.
- Foster a caring and inclusive environment, addressing the unique needs of international students.
- Liaise with other departments for in-person programming, onboarding LL.M. students on campus, welcoming guest speakers, and international delegations when needed.
- Maintain and update Student Handbook; LL.M. and J.S.D. Curriculum Guides (digital and print) following Cardozo rules, guidelines, and branding strategies.
- Assist in registration and orientation efforts for all LL.M., J.S.D., and Exchange students.
- Conduct informational sessions and workshops to help students with transitioning to life in New York, their matriculation, and their adjustment into their chosen programs.
- Act as an advocate for LL.M. student concerns by liaising with other Cardozo and Yeshiva University departments (e.g., cultural adjustment, immigration matters, academic and legal English matters, personal and financial concerns, general orientation to life in the U.S., etc.).
- Work closely with OCS and Clinical/Externship departments to expand experiential learning and career opportunities for LL.M. students.
- Assist with event planning and execution for the professional development of graduate students and other community-building programs.
Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- One 2-credit course per semester.
- Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring courses meet the NY Bar requirements.
Administrative Oversight:
- Manage community building events, budget, and resources, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with university policies.
- Coordinate with Career Success Center and Externships/Clinics Departments in support of LLMs’ professional goals.
- Oversee compliance with study abroad policies, including scholarship implications for JD students pursuing a semester abroad.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build relationships with alumni, legal employers, and international organizations to enhance program visibility and career opportunities.
- Represent Cardozo at national and international conferences, promoting the school’s leadership in graduate legal education.
Experience & Educational Background:
Qualifications:
- Education and Licensure.
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) from an ABA-accredited law school.
