Overview and Responsibilities

The Network & Security Engineer is responsible for tactics and the execution of CVTC’s information security strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage projects in areas of network security.
  • Write technical and business documentation. 
  • Engineer, maintain, and support enterprise wireless networks.
  • Perform wireless network site surveys.
  • Engineer, maintain, and support routing and switching infrastructure.
  • Possess and maintain an understanding of core networking concepts (e.g., OSI Model, TCP/IP, Routing, Switching, DNS, DHCP).
  • Possess and maintain an understanding of Microsoft Windows server technologies (e.g., DHCP, DNS, Active Directory).
  • Maintain secured access to network resources (VPN, RADIUS, Access Control Lists).
  • Integrate applications into the Microsoft single sign on portal.
  • Responsible for administration of network print management solutions.
  • Configure security systems, analyze security requirements, and recommend improvements.
  • Systems and infrastructure patch management strategy and compliance.
  • Assist in regulatory compliance efforts including, but not limited to, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and public records retention.
  • Implement and maintain access layer security/segmentation technologies (802.1x, SDA, etc.).
  • Apply a zero-trust security model to strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Assist in responding to security breaches and sensitive data loss.
  • Assist in planning and executing disaster recovery.
  • Secure wired and wireless networks.
  • Integrate identity into wired and wireless networks.
  • Analyze threat intelligence from SIEM solutions.
  • Administer vulnerability intelligence solutions.
  • Administer EDR/XDR and advanced threat protection technology.
  • Administer virtual desktop infrastructure and Microsoft Defender 365 solutions.
  • Research and remain current on information security trends.
  • Serve as technical point of contact for Managed Detection and Response (MDR) partner.
  • Facilitate e-discovery requests.
  • Perform breach forensics and discovery.
  • Assist in developing strategy and tactics based on security standards such as NIST or CIS.
  • Interpret and present detailed technical subject matter to a wide array of audiences.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
  • Maintain service and support contracts as assigned.
  • Follow department standard operating procedures.
  • Possess and maintain awareness of zero-day threats and work with application/system owners to mitigate risk.
  • Possess and maintain an understanding of capital and operational expenses as it pertains to hardware and services acquisition.

  • Advanced knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Office 365 Suite.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of systems and/or network administration.
  • One year or more of security focused administration preferred.
