Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Product & Services Safety (P&SS) organization is seeking motivated and dedicated System Safety Engineers to join the Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance team in Tukwila, WA.

At Boeing, Safety is at the core of everything we do. As a System Safety Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to work across the entire life cycle of the USAF E7-A program, from conceptual development into design and test, production, and sustainment of the fielded aircraft. You’ll experience the big picture and fascinating complexities of the defense industry while getting hands on experience on the aircraft.

The Systems Safety team performs the Systems Safety effort for USAF E7-A including analysis and oversight for basic aircraft functions, as well as owning the design safety activities for the aircraft’s mission systems. Additionally, the team provides guidance and integration to Mission Assurance and other adjacent functions including Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health teams such as airworthiness, design for Environment, Health and Safety, and the Hazardous Materials Management Program.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Senior and Subject Matter Expert (SME) System Safety Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Tukwila, WA.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 9+ years of experience in a technical or engineering field

  • 7+ years of experience in aviation systems safety engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 14+ years of experience implementing Department of Defense system safety standards MIL STD 882E

  • Experience in traditional engineering analytical methods and Aerospace/Industry Standards (SAE ARP 4754A, SAE ARP 4761, RTCA DO-160, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-331)

Typical Education / Experience:

  • Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
