Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management - Control Methodology

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is seeking a Senior Risk Manager to join Capital One’s ERM Control Methodology team. This individual will have the opportunity to apply their risk management and process management skills to support driving Capital One’s continued stability and success in managing and maintaining an effective internal control environment. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk professional with excellent teamwork, process improvement, analytical and communication skills.


This Senior Risk Manager will play a key role in the ongoing governance and management of our Enterprise Control Standard. This role has a high degree of engagement and collaboration with our first and second line performers and stakeholders to drive adoption and application of our control methodology, program and practices, and reporting on the state of our control inventory. The individual selected for this role will have exposure across the lines of business and have an opportunity to work with a diverse set of leadership and risk teams to create and implement innovative solutions to enhance our control methodology, as well as participate in some of our highest profile Risk Management initiatives. 

In this role, you will be accountable for applying your risk management knowledge, influencing, collaboration, and problem solving skills to ensure sustainable execution and change management of our Policy and practices, as well as identify opportunities to strengthen and mature your areas of focus. To be successful in this position, intellectual curiosity and critical thinking are needed. The Senior Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent process, leadership, organizational and communication skills. 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Serve as a relationship manager to our businesses on the Enterprise Control Standard to ensure consistent understanding, implementation and application of the methodologies, as well as to provide transparency, partnership and collaboration

  • Ensure consistent implementation and execution of the Enterprise Control Standard through conducting periodic program assessments, ongoing monitoring and inputs from various channels and forums

  • Educate others with periodic training required for our business and risk management stakeholders to provide context and use of the Enterprise Control methodology and processes

  • Partner internally to support second line control challenge methodologies, provide guidance and mediate when needed

  • Manage and socialize updates to the Enterprise Control Standard and Supplemental Guidance

  • Engage with Fuse to establish control methodology and business requirements related to documenting, managing and testing controls

  • Engage with and support audits and regulatory exams, addressing requests in a timely manner

  • Develop practical solutions to improve risk management processes using data and technology to increase efficiency and enhance reporting

  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in the financial industry 

  • At least 5 years of experience in Risk Management 

  • At least 5 years of experience in control or process testing, control monitoring, quality assurance or auditing

  •  At least 2 years of experience with Google and MicroSoft Office Suites

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Professional certification in control, audit or process quality disciplines

  • Experience in responding to and interacting with internal audit or regulatory agencies

  • Strong subject matter expertise in controls development, controls management, controls testing, and reporting activities  

  • Familiarity with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO)
