A Brief Overview
Responsible for the application and promotion of contemporary, evidence-based infection prevention and practice standards to programs and projects across the Stormont Vail Health System. The delivery of professional care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Associate’s Degree in nursing with current RN licensure and 3-5 years experience in Infection Prevention and Control. Required or
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s Degree in an applied clinical science including Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Public Health or other related clinical field with 1-2 years relevant clinical experience. Required
  • Master's Degree Nursing, epidemiology, public health, or related field. Preferred

Experience Qualifications
  • Chart review and database data entry experience. Preferred

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of statistical calculations. (Preferred proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A license as a Registered Nurse may be substituted for educational/experience requirements to meet one level of qualification for this position.
  • Infection Prevention & Control - CBIC Preferred

What you will do
  • Conducts surveillance and/or investigate potential infectious outbreaks with the Health System. Based on trends, establishes prevention interventions and new surveillance as indicated based on organizations data and literature.
  • Assesses educational and training needs, develop, coordinate and provide education and training related to Infection Prevention, including New Employee, Provider, and Unit Specific orientation, for the Stormont Vail Health System, and general public.
  • Functions as liaison with public health agencies and other community organizations such as schools as related to infection prevention activities, outbreaks and reportable conditions.
  • Provides consultation to Employee Health Service and other Health System units and committees regarding occupational health, infectious exposures, sharp safety and outbreak investigations.
  • Conducts Infection Control Risk Assessments for construction and renovation projects and assist in avoiding/reducing infectious hazards related to construction, renovation and maintenance. Monitor prevention measure implementation. Acquire and maintain current knowledge of construction and design standards as well as related infection prevention practice.
  • Maintains current knowledge and carry out Infection Prevention and Control requirements as specified by OSHA regulations, designated accreditation organizations, health department licensing and regulations, and public health guidelines.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skill in the area of infection prevention, control and epidemiology.
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes surveillance data related to communicable diseases, healthcare-associated infections and organisms of concern.
  • Produces line lists, charts and graphs, and other summaries related to HAI data, surveillance and performance improvement activities for review, presentations and reports.
  • Assists with emergency preparedness and participates in emergency preparedness activities.
  • Participates in Health System based committees and provides infection prevention guidance as indicated.
  • Assists with Infection Prevention procedure and protocol development and distribution.
  • Participates in performance improvement studies related to infection prevention and epidemiology. Coordinates corrective action plans when appropriate.
  • Assists with health system product evaluation and selection.
  • Serves as role model for consistent demonstration of Stormont Vail Health privacy and confidentiality procedures and protocols.

Travel Requirements
  • 10% Between clinics as necessary to carry out duties.
