The Opportunity 

Cornell Information Technologies is seeking an experienced IT Field Services Technician III to support and deploy networking and telecommunications infrastructure across Cornell's campus. 

This role is designed for a skilled network infrastructure professional who can independently execute installations, troubleshoot moderately complex issues, provision network equipment, and serve as a technical resource for peers and customers. 

Work is performed daily at multiple campus locations – both indoor and outdoor worksites – including construction areas, confined spaces, mechanical rooms, maintenance holes, and rooftops. Appropriate safety training must be completed and kept current and safety gear must be worn as required. 


Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License. Out-of-state employees must obtain and show proof of a NYS license within 30 days of starting employment. 

Following a comprehensive three-month onboarding and training period, this position participates in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule throughout the year.

What you will do 

  • Receive, prioritize, and complete service orders for network and telecommunications installations, repairs, moves, adds, and changes. 

  • Independently prepare, configure, install, and provision switches, wireless access points, phones, emergency communications devices, and UPS systems. 

  • Troubleshoot wired, wireless, and voice network issues and partner with engineering teams on resolution of more complex problems. 

  • Pull, terminate, splice, test, and certify copper and fiber-optic cabling infrastructure. 

  • Deploy network infrastructure supporting construction projects, building renovations, network modernization efforts, and equipment refresh initiatives. 

  • Coordinate directly with customers, local IT support teams, contractors, and technical staff. 

  • Maintain accurate network documentation and cable management records. 

  • Assist in onboarding and training newer technicians. 

  • Recommend process improvements and share technical expertise with the team. 

 

What We Need 

  • Associate degree and 2–4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Experience installing and supporting wired, wireless, and voice network equipment. 

  • Experience working with copper and fiber-optic infrastructure,
