About the role

The Director Provider Performance Improvement collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership to develop and support programs designed to improve clinical quality, patient safety, and hospital operations through physician engagement. Oversees the tools and processes used to evaluate provider performance for credentialing. Coordinates quality and process improvement projects and provides support and guidance to leaders and clinicians.

Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with our hospital Chief Medical Officers, medical staff presidents, medical staff offices, and chair of our Medical Affairs committee coordinates and evaluates physician performance improvement activities, ensuring alignment with the strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) functions. Maintains strong working relationships with physician and advanced practice provider leaders; Closely works with credentialing and department leaders to ensure utilization of OPPE and FPPE in physician evaluation process.
  • Contributes to the strategic functions of the department of Medical Affairs related to data and analytics. To include identification of data needs, planning, development, and implementation of analytic processes.
  • Works with our hospital Chief Medical Officers, medical staff presidents, medical staff offices, chair of medical affairs committee, appropriate medical staff departments, and other stakeholders to develop performance indicators used in the monitoring and evaluation process.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership to design and support programs aimed at improving quality and patient safety through physician engagement.
  • Serves as an internal consultant/facilitator on performance improvement, peer review and patient safety related initiatives.
  • Creates, fosters, and facilitates actions that promote a culture in which physicians continuously seek out and adopt evidence based best practices and interventions; Promotes actions to identify and address health care and health services disparities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of standards, rules and regulations as mandated by Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory organizations and provides changes and regulatory updates to leaders and teams as appropriate.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification: Certification as a professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Lean/Six Sigma, or American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification (relevant credential is required within 12 months of hire).
  • 3 years experience in large acute hospital.
  • Highly skilled in analyzing process and outcome data and data visualization
  • Education: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree: Masters, MBA or MHA
  • Experience building large scale/ system wide programs
  • Background in process improvement, quality or continuous improvement
  • Leadership experience leading teams or projects
  • Experience working with providers
  • Understanding of standards, rules and regulations mandated by Joint Commission and CMS
