  • Works under close supervision in a controlled patient care area and performs a variety of duties connected with cardiac rhythms displayed on the monitor screens. Provides a variety of clerical functions and duties, responds to phone inquiries. Initiates appointments, orders, and running errands, while working under the licensed nursing staff and ICU Director. This position is represented by RCHEA.

        • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or GED preferred
        • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of the basic electrocardiograph course, passing the basic electrocardiograph test within 6 months of hire date.
        • LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: BLS Certification following American Heart Association guidelines required no other cards accepted
        • QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to type 30-wpm preferred

        • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (a): This job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. The employee must demonstrate lifting a 25-pound box from the floor.
        • POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO BLOOD & BODY FLUIDS: Category 2 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Does not usually require the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but Category 2 tasks may require the unexpected performance of these procedures.)

        Job Roles

        Monitor Technician (AHCL)

        • Assists with unit flow including: answers telephones. Directs all incoming physician calls to RN. Helps with directing visitors and enforcing visitor regulations. Assists with processing patient admissions, discharges, and transfers within scope of practice. Keeping working area neat and organized at all times. Performs cleaning duties as needed. Reports any equipment issues to house supervisor and bio-med as needed. Empties trash as needed.
        • Continually observes the cardiac rhythm waveforms displayed on the screens by constantly scanning the monitors. Relays abnormal rhythms or problems to the nurse and/or other members of the health team as appropriate. Documents the patients basic rhythm upon patients admission and every 6 hours thereafter, and as often as changes are observed. Keeps the telemetry Kardex current by recording data accurately.
        • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
        • Monitors computer for new physician orders and notifies licensed person of any stat orders. Notifies appropriate department for tasks to be done, such as x-ray, lab, dietary, admitting or maintenance. Assists with interdepartmental runs and collecting specimens, etc.
        • Obtains a strip of patients tracing, and mounts and labels tracing. Places tracing in chart. Measures PR and QRS intervals on strips at the beginning of each shift and on new admits. If there are changes in rhythm, or if an arrhythmia is present, makes annotation on the strip of name of person notified and of patients activity at the time the tracing is made.
        • Performs recordkeeping on clinical/operational forms with the scope of practice. Assists in initiating incident reports of unusual events.
