Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and scientifically grounded leader to serve as Associate Vice President, Precision Medicine & Diagnostics for our Oncology Business Unit. This individual will lead a cross-functional team spanning both medical affairs and commercial functions, driving integrated diagnostic strategies that enable timely patient identification, diagnostic access, and scientific engagement across our global oncology portfolio.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in diagnostics and pathology and a proven track record of leadership at the interface of diagnostics, medical affairs, and commercial strategy. This leader will work closely with the asset/brand teams along with Clinical Biomarkers and Diagnostic Development (CBDD), ensuring seamless collaboration between development and post-development functions to deliver precision medicine solutions that are impactful and scalable.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the global Precision Medicine & Diagnostics (PMDx) strategy in alignment with Oncology brand goals and portfolio priorities that incorporate the latest insights and knowledge to support the adoption of patient identification for Lilly Medicines across the globe.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on oncology diagnostics, partnering with internal stakeholders and external collaborators to drive innovation and execution. Apply detailed understanding of Diagnostic Commercialization to ensure Lilly maximizes appropriate patient identification for its Medicines.
- Lead global Innovation Readiness and environment shaping efforts to drive earlier diagnosis, biomarker testing adoption, and health system readiness for Lilly’s emerging precision oncology medicines.
- Lead the development and execution of strategies to foster and strengthen collaborative relationships with external diagnostic societies, organizations, and stakeholders, driving mutual initiatives, partnerships, and
- Provide direction and feedback on core medical affairs deliverables (publications, evidence generation including IIR, guidelines, thought leader engagement, congress strategy, medical and disease state education, omnichannel strategy), and commercial deliverables (reimbursement, co-commercialization, sponsored testing, peer to peer activities, PMC field resources)
Global & Pipeline Strategy
- Partner across regions to ensure globally aligned PMDx strategies while tailoring to local healthcare environments and testing ecosystems.
- Collaborate with Clinical Biomarkers and Diagnostic Development (CBDD) and R&D to inform and influence diagnostic and companion diagnostic (CDx) selection and development for pipeline assets.
- Shape early diagnostic strategies to enable clinical trial enrollment, future testing implementation, and commercial readiness.
- Ensure insights from the field and scientific community inform biomarker and CDx strategies across development stages.
Innovation Readiness & External Collaboration
- Identify and evaluate emerging diagnostic technologies, platforms, and testing paradigms to future-proof the organization’s PMDx capabilities.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with diagnostic companies, labs, academic leaders, and health system stakeholders.
- Collaborate across access, policy, and advocacy teams to ensure market readiness for innovative diagnostics and enable broad adoption.
- Collaborate and contract with external labs to acquire test results to enable triggered brand activities.
Team Leadership
- Manage, develop, retain, motivate and recruit precision medicine and diagnostics commercial and medical affairs talent.
- Eliminate barriers and silos that inhibit collaboration across departments, and foster a culture of open collaboration, communication and transparency.
- Clearly communicate and articulate the diagnostic strategy to stakeholders and regularly report on portfolio progress.
- Make prioritization decisions related to the development of Precision Medicine Consultant resources and their relative share of voice in the field, in alignment with Oncology leadership, to maximize impact
