This role requires not only strong technical depth but also the ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data engineers. You will be responsible for driving the strategy, design, and implementation of our modern cloud-native data platforms to enable advanced analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence across the organization.

This role is a hybrid position. Work will mostly be completed remotely, except when required to report to a Guidehouse or client site office for meetings within the DMV.

What You Will Do:

  • Technical Leadership

    • Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AWS-based data architectures.

    • Oversee solution design, data modeling, integration, and governance practices.

    • Evaluate and recommend AWS-native tools and best practices for scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data platforms.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship

    • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.

    • Establish coding standards, design patterns, and CI/CD practices for data pipelines.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including data scientists, analysts, and product teams.

  • Architecture & Development

    • Architect and implement scalable ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions using AWS data services.

    • Enable data discovery, lineage, and governance with AWS Glue Data Catalog and other metadata management tools.

    • Drive automation, monitoring, and standardization across the AWS data platform.

  • Strategic Impact

    • Partner with business leaders to align AWS data platform capabilities with organizational priorities.

    • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements using AWS security and governance services.

    • Champion a data-driven culture and advocate for enterprise-wide adoption of modern AWS data practices.

What You Will Need:

  • Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.

    • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership role.

  • Technical Skills

    • Deep expertise in AWS-based data lake architectures (Amazon S3, Lake Formation, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Athena).

    • Strong knowledge of data fabric concepts (data virtualization, metadata-driven orchestration, semantic layers).

    • Proficiency in AWS streaming & batch data services (Kinesis, MSK, Glue ETL, EMR/Spark).

    • Experience with modern AWS analytics and AI/ML integration (SageMaker, QuickSight, Redshift Spectrum).

    • Strong programming skills (Python, Scala, Java, SQL).

    • Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and cataloging using AWS Glue Data Catalog and third-party tools (Collibra, Alation, DataHub).

    • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices, including Git, Terraform, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, and Docker.

    • Strong knowledge of database systems (Oracle, Aurora, PostgreSQL), data modeling techniques, and SQL proficiency.

  • Leadership Skills

    • Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.

    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

    • Strong problem-solving, architectural thinking, and decision-making skills.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (or equivalent certification).
