This is a temporary position.
As a UX Designer focused on our internal developer portal, you will be a key driver in shaping the user experience and design strategy for a critical tool that empowers our development teams. Leveraging your extensive expertise in user-centered design principles, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create a seamless and intuitive digital experience for our developers. Your insights and contributions will directly impact the efficiency, productivity, and satisfaction of our developer community. Opportunity will exist to flex your coding muscles as well!
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required:
- Undergraduate degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, or a related field and/or equivalent experience/certification
- 4+ years’ experience and a proven track record of designing successful and user-centered digital experiences, ideally including developer portals or complex web applications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs.
Preferred:
· Graduate degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, or a related field
· Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar, as well as prototyping tools for interactive designs.
· Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and accessibility standards.
· Experience working with Backstage or similar developer portals is a strong plus.
· Thrives in a highly collaborative, matrixed, complex, fast paced environment.
· Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design decisions.
· A portfolio showcasing your UX/UI design work, including examples of complex applications and your design process.
- Knowledge of REACT and its implementation.
- Understanding of backend technologies and APIs.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG).
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
- Lead the end-to-end UX design process for the internal developer portal, from research and conceptualization to wireframing, prototyping, and user testing.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, define user journeys, and translate business objectives into compelling user experiences.
- Conduct user research, surveys, and usability studies to gain deep insights into user needs, pain points, and behaviors, using the findings to inform design decisions.
- Develop detailed wireframes, prototypes, and interactive mockups to visualize and communicate design concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Champion consistency and best practices in design by creating and maintaining design systems, guidelines, and UI patterns that align with Backstage's capabilities.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration of design elements, and provide guidance throughout the implementation phase.
- Actively participate in design critiques and user testing sessions, iterating on designs based on user feedback and data-driven insights.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in UX/UI design, and apply this knowledge to enhance the portal's usability, accessibility, and overall user satisfaction.
Salary Range (based on compa-ratio to accommodate all pay zones) Washington Applicants Only: Employees will accrue 0.0334 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 9 holidays annually.
