Job Responsibilities

25%  Subject to administrative approval of the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) Secretary, serves as Chief Data Officer for the State of Illinois:

  • Serves as a principal strategist and policy-making official with DoIT regarding the setting and managing of the governmental data effort including, but not limited to, coordinating how the State of Illinois offers Application Program Interfaces (APIs), utilizes data to support decision and policy making. 
  • Develops public data products and implements strategy to create a more data and analytics driven statewide culture to better serve State of Illinois constituents.
  • Drives the use of emerging technologies to support the best processes for increased data availability and data sharing.
  • Conducts site visits to meet with agencies, state and federal officials, etc., to discuss data related needs/requirements including reporting dashboards, data visualization, etc. 

 

20%  Under direction of the State Chief Information Officer/DoIT Secretary works closely with the Chief Enterprise Architect and Chief Technology Officer to design, standardize and implement the vision for how data will be managed and utilized throughout the enterprise:

  • Determines and directs how Illinois addresses data as an asset, considering its creation, storage, access and reuse over the life of any given data set while maintaining accuracy and security of the data.
