Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) represents a significant area of scientific and commercial interest. EBV causes mononucleosis which is increasingly associated multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus and several malignancies – all disease areas with significant unmet and promising potential for a prophylactic or treatment vaccine approach.
What You Will Achieve
This role is an individual contributor within the Vaccines Early Commercial Business, part of the Global Commercial Strategy organization, reporting to the Vaccines Disease Area Lead (DAL). The Director, Early Commercial, is the Commercial lead for Pfizer's pre-clinical EBV program responsible for leading the commercial strategy and progressing the emerging asset through governance stage-gates, endorsements, and prioritization decisions. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, comprehensively articulating the market opportunity and generating insights required to drive strategy, guide development decisions and inform long-range forecasting, as well as leading cross-functional alignment of a value-maximizing target product profile and on-going valuation processes to ensure the asset is appropriately prioritized at the enterprise level.
The role will partner closely with Research & Development, Medical Affairs, Global Access Strategy & Pricing, Business Analytics & Insights, Competitive Intelligence, Business Development, and US and International Commercial teams.
The role requires strong strategic judgment, critical thinking, and analytical rigor, combined with a solid scientific foundation capable of deeply understanding the complex and quickly moving science in this space. Cross-functional leadership and effective influence will be critical to shaping future program direction, priorities and, ultimately, maximizing public health impact with this unique opportunity.
Asset Leadership:
Identify and champion key value drivers and relevant target populations for EBV opportunities, grounded in epidemiology and burden of disease, health economics, patient flows, and current standards of care
Provide early and on-going read on competitive activity and implications
Translate unmet need, standard of care, competitive dynamics, patient/HCP insights, and access considerations into differentiated commercial hypotheses - socialize and cross-functionally align Commercial POV
Oversee market research plan to generate key insights and fill in knowledge gaps to directly shape product concepts, potential target product profile(s) and related clinical strategy
Identify risks, uncertainties, and evidence needs that may impact future EBV asset potential
Lead on-going development of cross-functionally aligned, value-maximizing target product profile
Provide Commercial input to clinical development, evidence generation, lifecycle, and indication sequencing discussions
Support the annual strategic and operating plan process, and manage associated Commercial budget
Commercial Assessment and Business Case Development:
Lead development of commercial opportunity scenarios and related assessments, including market-sizing, competitive scenarios, price, market share, etc.
Partner with R&D, BAI, GASP, and Competitive Intelligence colleagues to pressure-test assumptions and identify key decision points
Continuously monitor the competitive landscape and highlight points of differentiation and Commercial implications - socialize and lead strategic discussions to align and execute updated action planning
Develop clear, executive-ready materials that communicate Commercial opportunity, strategic rationale, risks, and investment implications
As asset progresses into clinical stage, lead increasingly rigorous long-range forecasting and valuation
Define and execute market research to inform forecast funnel and key inputs
Support commercial assessments of external innovation and Business Development opportunities relevant to Pfizer Vaccines EB
