Gas Controller I, Gas Controller II/Gas Controller Sr.

BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Gas Controller I, Gas Controller II/Gas Controller Sr., at our White Oaks General Office Building location in Bridgeport, WV. 

• Operates pipeline storage systems to maintain a reliable energy supply, provide economic delivery of natural gas, and protect the safety of company personnel and the public.  
• Makes decisions about operating changes, in response to abnormal or emergency conditions within the system.  
• Uses system expertise to provide leadership to field personnel, in pipeline and storage facilities operations, during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations. 
• Utilizes system expertise to initiate actions to maintain operational pressures, and monitors system load to balance gas use among supply sources.  
• Coordinates and directs pipeline pigging operations for pipeline integrity compliance and modifies pipeline pressure and flow conditions to ensure a successful pig runs
• Issues pipeline procedures to remove lines and equipment from service, while maintaining system reliability and integrity, and ensuring safety.  
• Responds to SCADA alarms and directs corrective action.  
• Responds to unplanned and emergency situations (e.g. compressor trip).  
• Assists and guide lower-level Gas Controllers on complex, non-routine system operations.  
• Coordinates wet production operations with production personnel.  
• Monitors, analyzes, and responds to SCADA alarms, providing safe and efficient pipeline operations. 
• Implement daily and interday pipeline nomination changes and requests by storage partners.  
• Analyzes storage injection and withdrawal requirements and implements use of storage facilities according to plan.  

** Successful candidate is required to live within commuting distance of one hour OR if you do not live within one hour must be willing to self-relocate.

** This position requires that you to work a rotating shift which includes day shift, night shift, weekends and holidays.

Gas Controller I:

0-2 years combined natural gas, analytical, utility, process operation/control (field, paper, water, chemical, etc.) or related experience preferred.

• Basic knowledge of company operations, pipeline network and facilities (compressor stations, storage pools, production systems, etc.) is preferred.
• Ability to learn and retain knowledge of natural gas safety and emergency plans/procedures.
• Ability to learn and retain knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) regulations and procedures.
• Ability to learn and retain basic FERC regulations and other regulatory requirements, as needed.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data, detect errors and recommend changes.
• Basic understanding of operation of computerized equipment and standard office equipment.
• Ability to perform basic math: to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions.
• Ability to be able to clearly document data when completing shift turnover records.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing internally and externally.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport, as needed.
• Ability to be able to distinguish between colors.
• Ability to manage work and perform varied tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to remain focused and to respond competently under pressure to changing pipeline conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Must be able to commute to work within agreed upon time period.

Education: 

• High School diploma required; Associate (Typically two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)

 

Gas Controller II:

At least three years combined natural gas, analytical, utility, process operation and control (field, paper, water, chemical, etc.) or related experience preferred.

• One year in an entry-level Gas Controller role is preferred prior to moving to this level
• Knowledge of company operations, pipeline network, and facilities (compressor stations, storage pools, production systems, etc.)
• Working knowledge of natural gas safety and emergency plans and procedures.
• Working knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) regulations and procedures.
