JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 2 supports the experimental stroke research in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. This position aids in projects that utilize gene knockdown, molecular biology and neurobehavioral approaches to study neurovascular protection mechanisms in experimental stroke.
- Performs rodent surgery.
- Performs functional/behavior outcomes tests (motor and cognitive).
- Performs genotyping, Western Blot, and uses basic molecular techniques.
- Prepares laboratory reagents, buffers, and culture media.
- Maintains genotyping and animal inventory.
- Assists with stereotaxic injections in the mouse brain.
- Organizes daily and weekly work schedules and equipment use, optimizes efficiency of procedures, and provides advice and feedback to Principal Investigator and co-workers.
- Communicates with the Principal Investigator regularly.
- Assists with the daily operations of the laboratory and other members of the laboratory.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to learn new techniques and protocols.
- Knowledge of animal methods and protocols.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Ability to remain organized and document skills of work performed in detailed written records.
- Knowledge of the following methods: functional/behavior outcomes tests (motor, cognitive), stereotaxic injection, genotyping, basic molecular techniques, neuronal culture/isolation, and immunohistochemistry is preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
