Michael Baker is seeking a highly motivated candidate with the ability to lead environmental transportation tasks for various types of projects in the Great Lakes region from its Minneapolis, MN office. The Senior Environmental Planner will join a team of experienced designers, technical experts (e.g., noise, waste, natural resources), and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective environmental planning. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. The Senior Environmental Planner’s primary responsibilities will include:
- Executing and leading hands-on planning efforts on a wide range of transportation planning projects (highway, bridge, rail, aviation, etc.)
- Serving as a Task Manager for NEPA project deliverables (i.e., CE/EA/EIS)
- Provide direct support to project managers.
- Directly interacting with clients, stakeholders, and the general public.
- Mentoring junior staff.
- Supporting marketing and business development efforts.
- Identifying new opportunities and assisting in the positioning for and securing the opportunity. The Senior Environmental Planner will have a number of activities on any given day which include: - Supporting the facilitation of public meetings as a member of the project team.
- Supporting NEPA development for projects of varying sizes and complexities in PA, WV, and other locations
-Supervisory responsibilities to direct reports and assigning various tasks to staff.
- Collecting and compiling a variety of quantitative and qualitative data to prepare reports, maps, and related graphics.
- Conferring with resource agencies, transportation officials, design engineers, and other technical specialists to devise and recommend the appropriate transportation decisions.
– Assisting in conducting field evaluations and assessments.
- Researching regulations and standards.
- Developing reports under the direction of the department manager.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Four-year degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Biology, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of NEPA/Section 4(f) experience with MnDOT planning related experience that demonstrates a successive increase in experience and responsibilities.
- AICP or other related professional certification or licensure.
- Knowledge of one or more transportation planning disciplines, such as NEPA, Section 4(f), Section 106, natural resources studies, environmental impact assessments, community planning, economic development, or land use
- Ability to conduct research and prepare statistical planning reports on NEPA actions with an understanding of land use, environmental, and social and economic possibilities/constraints. Excellent oral and written communication skills required for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams. Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with ESRI ArcGIS helpful.
- Ability to accommodate moderate travel.
