The John Carroll School, a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory, co-educational high school, established in 1964 and located on 72 acres in Bel Air, Maryland, is currently seeking a full-time, 10-month, Service-Learning Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year.
Summary
The Service-Learning Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all service-related activities within the school. This position collaborates with and is supervised by the Director of Mission & Ministry. The Office of Mission & Ministry is responsible for promoting the Mission of the John Carroll School and providing a quality campus ministry and pastoral care program to students, faculty & staff, parents, and other members of the John Carroll community. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school’s Catholic mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Student Service-Learning Program:
- Communicate with students and parents about possible service opportunities.
- Maintain and approve Student Service Hours via the Mobile Serve App.
- Communicate with students who are deficient in completing service hours and support them in finding service opportunities.
- Maintain, foster, and develop relationships with different service agencies in the Harford County and larger Baltimore area to know how the John Carroll community may respond to their needs.
- Coordinate mission-focused charity drives such as Thanksgiving Food Drive, the Christmas Outreach Program, Catholic Schools Week & Patriots Week Drives, etc.
- Schedule and coordinate school-sponsored service experiences, service days, or class wide service days as directed by the administration.
- Work with faculty, staff, and coaches to incorporate service learning into the student experience.
- Develop a Student Service-Learning Placement Program that places students in a Service Agency that serves a vulnerable or marginalized population to be integrated into the Religion Department’s Catholic Social Teaching Curriculum.
- Provide support to the Academic Council and Religion Department to develop Service-Learning integration in the Curriculum.
- Schedule and coordinate the Sophomore Service Retreat program, facilitate Sophomore Retreat Days in collaboration with the Associate Campus Minister for Student Ministries and recruit chaperones where appropriate.
- Develop Student Servant Leaders through moderating the Romero Service Club & the Archbishop John Carroll Service Honor Society.
- Create and supervise a Service-Learning Resource Center for students.
- Collaborate with the Director of Mission & Ministry to assist with the Freshman Orientation & Retreat experiences.
- Collaborate with the Director of Mission & Ministry to train and supervise Student Peer Ministers.
- Coordinate and implement School-sponsored Service Immersion Trips, both domestic and international.
- Serve as a member of the school’s Campus Ministry Team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in theology, ministry, or relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
- Practicing Catholic, required.
- Previous Ministry or Service Project/Volunteer Training & Supervision experience in a Catholic School or parish preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for ministry and education.
- Proven ability to engage students in meaningful dialogue about faith, service to others, and spirituality.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory state & federal background checks, driving record check, completion of VIRTUS Training, and completion of all required employment paperwork.
