Data Scientist Intern

The Office of the Health & Civil Chief Data Officer has an opening for a data scientist intern. This position provides a current graduate student an opportunity to work on real-world data science problems while they complete their degree program. Following graduation, there is an opportunity to convert to full-time in the Reston, VA region.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Identifying, cleaning, and managing datasets, including open-source data, commercial data, and client data.
• Conducting exploratory data analyses to understand the scope and quality of the data.
• Cleaning and enriching the data to maximize their value in advanced analytics.
• Analyzing datasets to identify patterns and make predictions or recommendations.
• Developing prototype systems in a laboratory environment.

Basic qualifications:

• The candidate must be current enrollment in a postgraduate degree program (Masters/JD/PhD).in computer science, statistics, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience with advanced analytics including machine learning and generative artificial intelligence
• Familiarity with data science programming languages, such as Python, R, and SQL
• Experience using common data science packages, such as Keras, TensorFlow, and scikit
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

Preferred qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience with innovation, through publications or patents
• Demonstrated experience with full-stack software development
• Familiarity with Agile development in a team setting

Pay Range:

Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
