Job Details:

General Notes

Position is initially for one year from hire date, renewable based on performance and new funding acquisition.

Security sensitive; criminal background check conducted on selected candidate. Hiring decision is contingent upon clearing background check requirement.

Purpose

Research Associate will lead quantitative genetic analyses including the development and implementation of various QTL and GWAS analyses pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Manage data archiving and lead analyses of switchgrass datasets related to various mapping populations and field experiments. Utilize existing data from genetic and genomic studies to identify candidate genes.

  • Lead the preparation and submission of manuscripts related to the DOE grant.

  • Work closely with project collaborators to integrate datasets and complete analyses for phenotypes

  • Help to train and mentor postdoctoral fellows, graduate, and undergraduate researchers from the lab in QTL, GWAS, and Bioinformatics analyses

  • Present research results at conferences and meetings

Required Qualifications

The candidate should hold a PhD degree (or equivalent international degree) in Applied Sciences or related field. The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated individual with a solid background in Applied Sciences, experience developing independent research, and a track record of publication in high quality journals. The candidate is expected to have good communication skills and be capable of working in a team environment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience studying plant biology, experience in QTL, GWAS, and Bioinformatics.

Salary Range

$58,744+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Flexible: 40 hours/week is required, and most of this time should be during normal business hours (e.g., 9:00am-5:00pm), although it may change depending on projects being pursued.

  • Curriculum Vitae, including publications.

  • Minimum of three letters of reference, at least two of which must be from referees outside of the University of Texas at Austin.

  • PhD verification (copy of diploma or copy of official transcript in English with "degree awarded" information)
