Indian River State College is seeking a dynamic Chief of Campus Security to oversee and enhance the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors across all campuses. This role is ideal for an experienced law enforcement professional who excels at developing security policies, managing emergency response operations, and fostering partnerships with public safety agencies.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under administrative guidance, this position ensures the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors across all the college’s campuses. Responsibilities include developing and implementing security programs, policies and procedures, managing emergency response procedures, and fostering a safe environment. The role collaborates with various departments to maintain a secure campus, oversees law enforcement and safety operations, and ensures compliance with reporting requirements. Additional duties include securing funding to enhance department resources, and strengthening partnerships with local, state, and federal public safety agencies. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Oversee the investigation of safety and security incidents and ensure appropriate follow-up actions. Provides expert guidance to executives and administrators on law enforcement, security, and crisis management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, direct, evaluate and assume responsibility for all aspects of campus safety, security and emergency operations for the college and its satellite campuses, ensuring optimal coordination and efficiency of services and programs, and ensuring enforcement of all local, State, and Federal laws and relevant College policies and procedures.
  • Lead the department’s efforts to create and implement plans, policies, and procedures that actively pursue the creation of an accredited law enforcement department.
  • Work with other college personnel to actively and assertively pursue local, state and federal funding opportunities, including grants, awards and contracts so as to bolster departmental resources and capacity.
  • Enthusiastically promote and implement best practices of public safety, security, emergency management, and crisis management, leading a department that actively establishes the highest level of safety protocols, establishes deterrents, and investigates and reports incidents, accidents, criminal activity and other activities.
  • Lead campus efforts to promote and establish planned security measures and protocols for response to emergency and crisis situations, special events, and other unusual activities.
