GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This position will report to the Chief Development Officer and serve as a member of the office of development leadership team. Lead Office of Development Stewardship, Donor Engagement and Special Giving Programs to support the Enterprise-wide Fundraising Goals and Funding Priorities. Will be responsible for establishing and meeting short-and long-term stewardship, donor engagement and special giving goals, including strengthening donor relationships and clearly demonstrating to donors the impact their giving is having. Will manage a stewardship and special giving portfolio of current and prospective donors. The incumbent will supervise members of the stewardship, grants and planned giving team to help meet our grants and planned giving goals. Will work closely with members of the office of development management team to provide oversight, leadership, and guidance to the execution of policy, procedures, and best practices associated with stewardship, donor engagement, special giving, grants and planned giving. This position requires an advanced knowledge of health network/academic medicine major-gifts development best practices. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.  Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
  • Stewardship: Provides strategic vision and leadership of comprehensive stewardship program, including donor impact reports, recognition events and other important stewardship opportunities. Stewards transformational, principal, and major gifts donors. Donor Engagement: will lead and manage our donor engagement program focused on strengthening our relationship with current and prospective donors. 
  • Special/Grants/Planned Giving: will lead and manage program focused on increasing giving from these audiences and building the donor pipeline to execute a strategy to turn these donors into major-gift donors. Implements donor-centered engagement strategies aimed to attract new donors, retain and grow existing donor relationships, and increase support.
  • In conjunction with Chief Development Officer and other area Executive Directors, creates vision for and implements comprehensive stewardship, special giving, and planned giving strategic plan and strategies.
  • Evaluates and determines implementation of best-practice stewardship strategies, including recognition events and recognition societies (outright, planned, faulty and employee).
  • Evaluates and determines implementation of best-practice special giving strategies, including annual and non-major giving programs and pipeline tracking and upgrading of gifts.
  • Oversees implementation and execution of comprehensive planned giving program.
  • Develops and nurtures relationships with Network executives, clinical champions, and hospital administration.
  • Attends network, hospital, and community events and activities that enhance interaction and relations with donors, prospects, volunteers, clinical champions, and hospital administration.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree. 
  • 5 years of experience in management or leadership role.
  • 10 years demonstrated experience in fundraising, including securing major and planned gifts.
  • 10 years of experience working in a complex organization within the healthcare, higher education, and/or nonprofit sectors.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in communications or related field

SKILLS:

  • Advanced knowledge of fundraising practices necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills required.
  • Must be able to manage independent work schedule to achieve long-term activity and attainment goals.
  • Must be able to move about, within, and among multiple business units of the health network.
