Representative Ben Bowman of House District 25 is recruiting for a District Director (position LA4). This position will require a well-versed political strategist to assist the Representative in moving his policy priorities forward and manage his district communications. It will also require an experienced staff supervisor.
This is a hybrid role that will involve attending meetings in Tigard and working in Salem during the legislative session as well as other meetings as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Policy Guidance
- Serve as the point of contact on all bills where fellow legislators or advocacy groups want Rep Bowman’s sponsorship.
- Ensure Rep Bowman is prepped and available to testify on legislation.
- Track legislation in Rep Bowman’s priority areas and provide the necessary information so he is able to advocate.
Communications
- Draft regular newsletter covering Rep Bowman’s activities and priorities. Example here.
- Create and execute a social media strategy to elevate Rep Bowman’s presence and audience on those platforms.
- Draft Press Releases on Rep Bowman’s personal priorities.
- Draft official letters and communications to agency officials, constituents, local governments, and other entities.
Constituent Services
- Help HD-25 constituents navigate and access state services.
- Respond to constituent questions and comments about legislation.
- Track major constituent events (graduations, dean’s list, etc.) and draft personal letters from Rep Bowman.
Staffing + Office Management
- Onboard and supervise legislative assistants and interns.
- Ensure legislative assistants and interns have clear policy areas and responsibilities.
- Manage HD-25 budget (in partnership with HMO Operations Director).
District Management
- Maintain close communications and relationships with district leaders (Tigard, Beaverton, and Washington County)
- Coordinate with the City of Tigard, City of Beaverton, Washington County, Tigard Tualatin School District, and other local partners on their priorities at the state legislative level
