Patch Management Senior Software Engineer

The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team engineers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank.  We support two Data Centers, 15,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions, a secure and reliable Network connecting all the technology across the bank footprint and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month.  In addition to that foundational technology level, we own the operational support processes, monitoring and command center that provide a unified, well-managed technology response when issues arise.    We deliver innovative, and compelling technology solutions, in partnership with our line of business CIOs, to enhance the internal customer experience that enables our business partners to deliver.

Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Patch Management Software Engineer with expertise across Linux, Windows, .NET, and Java platforms. In this role, you will focus on identifying, developing, and implementing automation tools and processes to streamline patch management operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring the secure and efficient patching of diverse systems, contributing to the overall reliability and security of the application environment. This position offers the opportunity to innovate and expand the current application stack within a collaborative and growing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement automation tools, such as Ansible, to enhance the efficiency of patch management processes.

• Create and refine processes and tools that drive continuous improvement in patch management workflows.

• Develop and interpret architecture diagrams to facilitate tooling, process design, and operational workflows.

• Collaborate with business partners at various levels to gather and clarify business requirements.

• Provide guidance and coaching to junior software engineers, reviewing their documentation and proposed changes.

• Confer with other Development, operations staff and Technology staff in overall systems development direction from technical analysis to user acceptance testing.

• Prepare and review test data and execute detailed test plans.  Complete any required debugging.

• Evaluate and understand highly complex interrelationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications and platforms.

• Prepare thorough, clear technical and functional specifications and update systems documentation.  Prepare charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems.  Review documentation prepared by less experienced staff.

• Prepare and review assessments to include required tasks, estimated time frames and effort for any scope project.

• Recommend new technology, policies or processes to benefit the organization and improve deficiencies. Lead or participate in technical evaluations of vendor software.

• Follow and promote use of development standards and procedures.

• Maintain high level of technical aptitude and expert working knowledge of the supporting application(s), development environments and the supported client environment.

• Continuously expand your knowledge of trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in the financial services sector.

• Promote and adhere to industry standards, ensuring compliance with the company’s risk management policies and regulatory standards.

• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
