About the role

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), this position provides care for women and newborns. The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech utilizes sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and functions as an operating room technician, assisting physicians with surgical procedures.

Location: Layton Hospital - Layton, Utah

Department/Unit: Labor and Delivery

Entry Rate: $18.75+ (based on patient care experience)

Shift Details: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts

Schedule: Variable including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

*This is a Certified Nursing Assistant position that will work as a Patient Care Tech and will learn to Scrub within 90 days of hire. May also complete Health Unit Coordinator clerical duties.

* Looking for 1 year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting, preferably on a Mom & Baby or Labor/Delivery unit!

Essential Functions

  • Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment and supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process. May be responsible for maintaining and stocking birthing rooms appropriately.
  • Assists patients with bed baths, showering, use of bed pans and restrooms, foley catheter care, and ambulation.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns before, during, and after delivery.
  • Prepares the room for vaginal delivery by draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assists the RN.
  • Prepares the room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for procedures, setting up and passing instruments, and completing all instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with the RN. Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure.
  • Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current CNA Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers

  • Completion of nursing assistant training program
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers

(verification of current nursing assistant training program completion required at time of hire, and CNA certification required within 120 days of hire)

  • Completion of a fundamentals of nursing class with a passing grade within the past two (2) years
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Previous experience as a C.N.A Labor/Delivery or a Operating Room (OR) Technician with a C.N.A certificate
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
    • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
    • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
    • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying
