North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. Position Summary: The Cline School of Music at North Greenville University is seeking a Percussion Assistant for the Marching Band.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as Percussion Instructor for the NGU Marching Band
- Prepare for course(s) by organizing and becoming familiar with student material
- Prepare lesson plans and course material as required
- Effectively organize and present subject matter to students
- Objectively assess students for academic performance
- Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
- Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance as needed to ensure accuracy
- Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission
Physical Requirements
- Hearing: Hear well enough to conduct rehearsals
- Dexterity: Ability to demonstrate technique for students
- Mobility: Teach class, move between departments, and attend meetings across campus, if required
- Talking: Provide group and individual instruction.
- Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position is a part-time position in the Cline School of Music and reports first to the director of athletic bands and then to the Associate Dean of the School.
WORK SCHEDULE
The adjunct work schedule is flexible and can be scheduled to limit the trips to and from campus. Generally, there are 2 weeks of pre-season rehearsals followed by regular evening rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of the football season. Other rehearsals and performances may be required through the end of the semester.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Music with a percussion emphasis preferred.
- Background and/or professional experience in marching band percussion.
- Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree
- Experience and a passion for teaching
- Evidence of scholarly potential
