Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Do you have a passion for helping to empower leaders, employees, and organizations to achieve their goals through creative communication strategies, techniques and storytelling? As a Communications Senior Director, you will serve as a communications partner to the Travelers Chief Technology & Operations Officer, supporting executive communications and internal/external engagements and channels. This includes drafting written materials, managing projects and related logistics, delivering final materials to stakeholders and overseeing execution.

The role also focuses on amplifying our vision, mission, purpose, strategy and culture to engage employees and make Travelers a destination for talent. Reports to the Head of Technology & Operations and Innovation Communications. This position manages communications professionals.

What Will You Do?

  • Draft, review and proofread written materials for accuracy, consistency for assigned communications projects with minimal supervision.
  • Lead the design and execution of internal events, such as all-employee and senior leadership meetings.
  • Lead the development and delivery of complex communications plans to meet business objectives.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to executive leadership and cultivate strong partnerships with business and function leaders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of communications across all audiences and create, coordinate and manage appropriate vehicles for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversee communications projects from team members and provide feedback.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and other departments to ensure cohesive messaging and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Manage and identify recommendations to enterprise approval processes and manage use of templates, best practices and brand guidelines in the development of internal communications materials.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and guide, mentor other team members on the development of communications and communications strategies.
  • Identify risks, issues and challenges and recommend solutions for communications work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Ten years of experience in communications or a related field.
  • Three years of experience managing people.
  • Expert writing and editing skills for C-suite executives, with ability to adapt to full array of audiences both inside and outside of company. Experience partnering with technology leadership, a plus.
  • Ability to edit and proofread quickly and accurately.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary communications concepts and appropriate methods and techniques for communicating with multiple audiences and the knowledge of when to apply them.
  • Thorough understanding of business strategies.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships across functional areas and communicate, interact, and influence senior leaders.
  • Expert project management skills, with ability to manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously, within tight timeframes.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytic skills and ability to think critically.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Advanced ability to think and operate strategically.
  • Ability to identify emerging issues in the organization, and external issues that could affect the company's reputation.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills.
  • Experienced in directing multi-media design resources, ranging from video to web.
