Head Deskperson

To qualify for the Head Deskperson, KI-4401-00, position, applicants must meet the following Screen Out Element/Job Element #1 to be considered eligible for this position: Ability to do the work of a Head Deskperson without more than normal supervision. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed Screen Out Element/Job Element. If your knowledge and ability in the Screen Out Element/Job Element is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration. In addition to the Screen Out Element/Job Element #1 above, applicants must have the following knowledge and abilities: 1) Advising supervisors on the distribution of work (job jackets) to keyboard operators according to job priorities and workflow; 2) Reviewing the work of keyboard operators; 3) Processing initial copies of the Congressional Record, Federal Register and other necessary work; 4) Making necessary adjustments to ensure that quality meets or exceeds quality control standards; and 5) Leading or training Prepress journeypersons. In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Interim Changes to the Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Notice 615-38: 1) completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacant position; AND 2) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
