About the role

Description

  • Understands and promotes the mission, core values, standards, and policies of the school
  • Demonstrates understanding of early childhood development including supports needed for students with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and trauma 
  • Completes behavioral and mental health referrals to community partners
  • Collects and records student behavior referrals, and maintains student academic and permanent records
  • Conducts and documents behavioral observations inside classroom and on playground 
  • Provides timely and principle-based student support, as directed by the Head of School  
  • Effectively supports habit formation
  • Proactively identifies and implements research-based interventions with an emphasis on supporting students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other times that may require a high level of support
  • Meets with students at the request of teachers according to the communication protocol, functioning as a support to teachers 
  • Participates in regular meetings to present behavioral data analysis
  • Provides daily behavioral debriefs with the Head of School, maintaining regular communication regarding relationships and interactions with students, teachers, and families  
  • Maintains availability to meet with parents to discuss student needs before, after, and during the school day
  • Collaborates on the creation and implementation of student behavior and probation plans
  • Effectively utilizes technology to ensure documentation of student behavioral needs are thoroughly prepared and presented as a part of the Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten transition protocol

Skills 

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Oaks Academy’s philosophies of behavior and habit formation.
  • Thorough understanding of child development and appropriate school-level behavioral, social, and emotional interventions and supports 
  • Strong organizational, technical writing, and critical thinking skills
  • Principled decision making skills
  • Effective, respectful, and compassionate communication skills with parents, teachers, and students, and the ability to keep student and family information confidential 
  • Strong relational skills to maintain positive and effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners


Requirements

 (Preferred)

  • Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, or Psychology
  • Relevant teaching and/or staff experience at The Oaks Academy 
  • Certification or licensure in School Counseling, Child Development, or Child Psychology
  • A devout Christian who is a member of, associated with, or seeking to be associated with, a Christ-centered community of faith or a church
