Job Description:

Field Service Engineer for FACTS & HVDC

Tasks

The Service Engineer is a member of the Hitachi Energy Grid Integration FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) Service Solutions , providing service and support to customers with FACTS & HVDC stations.  This includes applications such as Series Capacitors (SC), Static VAR Compensators (SVC), STATCOMS, and High Voltage DC (HVDC).  The Field Service Engineer’s primary responsibility will be emergency support, troubleshooting, and maintenance; but can also be involved in station installation, commissioning, and upgrades.  Hitachi Energy installations are in the utility and industrial markets.   

Upon hiring, the candidate will receive hands on training by participating in commissioning projects and field service jobs with experienced members of the Service Solutions team.  Once the candidate reaches a necessary level of competence & experience, they will beis  expected to execute the tasks assigned to them in an autonomous way.  The selected candidate should be available for traveling for up to 80% of the time to sites located in North America and abroad for commissioning and other site activities.

Specific Responsibilities

The Field Service Engineer will serve as the first point of contact and subject matter expert for maintenance & repair of FACTS & HVDC stations/systems.  Customer support will be provided via phone communication and deployments to the customer site.  The Field Service Engineer will take ownership of customer issues and work collaboratively warranty project managers to resolve the issues in a timely manner.

The Field Service Engineer will provide technical expertise, direction, and guidance to less experienced personnel.  This can include leading customer training efforts on the station & Hitachi Energy control systems.  The Field Service Engineer is responsible for understanding health and safety processes and protocols; and ensuring the safety of personnel during work activities involving Hitachi Energy.   

The Service Engineer must support sales efforts during customer site visits, campaigning for HITACHI ENERGY and capturing potential business leads.

Requirements

- Language English

- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (preferably in Power Systems); or in lieu of degree, relevant field experience is acceptable;

- 3 years of related experience in the field of substations and industrial electrification projects;

- Strong knowledge of electrical safety measures, safety regulations, and compliance;  

- Thorough hands-on knowledge of substation products, equipment, and engineer concepts/practices;

- Experience working within computer-based control systems;

- Ability to operate in time critical, high pressure scenarios;

- Knowledge of Power Electronics, SVC, SC, or HVDC technologies is a plus;

- Knowledge of the electrical standards (ANSI, CSA, IEC, and others);

- Good communication, leadership, initiative;

- Critical thinking and analytical skills;

- Ability to demonstrate leadership and direct subcontractor & customer resources when necessary;

- Must be precise, organized, flexible & autonomous;

- Knowledge of computer tools required to accomplish his tasks;

- Availability to travel within North America and abroad for extended periods;
