About the role

The Student Counseling Center is seeking to hire a doctoral-level clinical or counseling psychologist with a strong interest and experience in collegiate mental health.  The center welcomes applications from skilled generalists, who thrive in an environment that values collaboration among team members and helps cultivate a healthy campus environment.  This new staff member will have the opportunity to enhance the resources of our team and shape how the center strategically interacts with the campus community. 

The Staff Psychologist’s primary responsibility is to provide direct clinical services to Florida Tech students, as well as crisis intervention and management.  This potential team member should have experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns and levels of severity.  In addition to clinical activities, the Staff Psychologist will also be able to meaningfully add to the center’s training and outreach/consultation initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

  • Offer culturally competent and evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy services to students presenting with a broad range of concerns and diagnoses, and provide consultation and referral services, when appropriate, to coordinate care.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and management services and be able to initiate involuntary examination (Baker Act) procedures in accordance with the Florida Mental Health Act (FL Statute 394.463), when appropriate.

Supervision and Training

  • Provide competency-based supervision for practicum students in the APA-accredited doctoral program for clinical psychology.
  • Participate in educational and training activities for students enrolled in the APA-accredited doctoral program for clinical psychology.

Outreach and Consultation

  • Utilize expert knowledge to consult with the campus community regarding topics related to student mental health, safety, and well-being.
  • Participate in campus crisis response activities following disruptive events.

Other Duties

  • Engage in professional development and service activities that facilitate increased knowledge and experience in collegiate mental health.
  • Coordinate specific center programming areas consistent with interests and expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed (or License-eligible) as a Psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Florida Statutes, Chapter 490.
  • Experience utilizing a variety of culturally competent and evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy modalities, as well as in providing crisis intervention, outreach/consultation, and referral services.
  • Ability to manage the professional demands of a challenging workload, utilizing strong time management, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions to manage complex crises and/or multiple clinical situations and to provide related supervision, training, and/or consultation, as needed.
  • Knowledge of professional ethical principles/guidelines, relevant state laws, and the ethical and legal issues regarding mental health practice, as well as the ability to interpret/apply laws, policies, and procedures consistently.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a university counseling center and in providing crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy services to a diverse clientele with a full range of mental health concerns.
  • Strong interest and experience in providing supervision and training activities with students at the doctoral level.
  • Administrative and computer application skills to effectively implement and maintain a case management and tracking system.
