About the role

We are in search of an experienced leader to serve as the Senior Manager Finance and Commercial Risk for our California Buildings district office, the lead financial role in a high growth district within PCL Construction’s commercial construction division.

As the finance leader of the Southern California area, the Senior Manager Finance and Commercial Risk is accountable for the overall financial and risk management of the district and is a strategic business partner to the Senior Vice President, California Buildings, and the entire district’s leadership team in developing and implementing growth, profit and efficiency improvement strategies for the business. The Senior Manager Finance and Commercial Risk reports to the Senior Vice President, California Buildings and indirectly to the Director Finance and Commercial Risk, U.S. Buildings and Civil. This role contributes to the overall success of the District by effectively analyzing, communicating, and managing the risk profile of the business. 

 

The salary range for this position is $158,525 - $213,900

Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Relationships

· Lead a department of approximately 20 financial and commercial risk professionals.

· Represent the District externally to owners, consultants and subcontractor partners.

· Partner with senior management and operations staff on district strategy to achieve financial and strategic priorities.

· Provide the District with financial and commercial risk training.

 

Strategic Planning

· Partner with District and Area Office leaders to develop short and long term goals that reflect the growth strategy of the Company for the District.

· Align with, communicate, and help drive the District’s operational and financial goals throughout the year, proactive flagging risks and developing mitigation strategies to meet targets.

 

Commercial Risk Guidance

· Develop overall risk profile for the District and develop strategies for effective financing and risk management

· Supports pursuit and project teams to ensure risks and opportunities are identified, communicated and managed effectively.

· Reviews, drafts and negotiates various forms of contract language.

· Oversees the pricing and placement of insurance, performance securities, and subcontractor default insurance products.

· Partner with the corporate risk management team on owner and trade subcontractor insurance, bonding, and subcontractor default insurance issues.

· Partner with corporate legal on high risk legal reviews and/or legal claims to maximize claim recovery.

 

Financial Analysis & Monitoring

· Partner with all areas of the district to ensure all financial and operational targets are met.

· Analyze District’s financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with project and administrative budgets.

· Provide the District leadership team with proactive analysis, feedback, and input on project performance.

· Evaluate potential joint venture partner financial capability.

· Verify owner funding sources to ensure adequate financing exists for new projects and collaborate with operations to mitigate financial risks through course of construction.

· Oversee and provide guidance with respect to owner audits, owner or subcontractor claims, or other project related financial issues.

· Collaborate with corporate finance on tax, license and compliance issues.

 

Planning & Cash Management

· Lead yearly planning process and drive ownership and accountability of actual results compared to plan.

· Proactively monitors project and district receivables and cash position.

· Work with operations to develop mitigation strategies for risks and cost deviations.

Qualifications

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

· CPA designation preferred

· 10+ years of accounting and managerial experience

· 5+ years in senior leadership finance or risk management role

· Experience in the construction industry preferred

· Advanced knowledge of construction contracts, insurance, bonding and other performance security requirements, lien laws and sales taxes for contractors

· Proactive, self-motivated, organized and able to work independently

· Strong risk evaluation, negotiation skills, and strategic thinking

· Effective problem-solver and decision-maker

· Good written and oral communication skills

· Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships
