General Summary

Senior Corporate Counsel are licensed attorneys who provide research, advice and other legal assistance to Management and other lawyers in the Legal Department.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Specialize in either litigation or transactions within the Legal Department.

  • Analyze and summarize legal documents including contracts and bid documents; make suggestions for alterations of those documents.

  • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the organization and develop strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk.

  • Research and analyze the law on complex issues and write a brief for submission to a supervising attorney or organization’s management.

  • Prepare, examine and negotiate contractual agreements including leases and licenses.

  • Draft standard form agreements for Legal Department.

  • Consult with management, tax department, IT department and insurance regarding transactions.

  • Lead and direct the work of members of the Division Legal group.

  • Provide counsel to Granite operations personnel and management for large project transactions, including but not limited to client contracts, joint venture agreements, subcontracts, design agreements and other necessary documents.


Education

  • A juris doctorate (JD) and admission into applicable state bar is required.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Experience in the areas of litigation, contracts, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions.

  • More than 10 years experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

  • Experience in implementing new products, services, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of construction concepts, practices, and procedures is required.
