General Summary

Senior Corporate Counsel are licensed attorneys who provide research, advice and other legal assistance to Management and other lawyers in the Legal Department.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Specialize in either litigation or transactions within the Legal Department.

• Analyze and summarize legal documents including contracts and bid documents; make suggestions for alterations of those documents.

• Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the organization and develop strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk.

• Research and analyze the law on complex issues and write a brief for submission to a supervising attorney or organization’s management.

• Prepare, examine and negotiate contractual agreements including leases and licenses.

• Draft standard form agreements for Legal Department.

• Consult with management, tax department, IT department and insurance regarding transactions.

• Lead and direct the work of members of the Division Legal group.

• Provide counsel to Granite operations personnel and management for large project transactions, including but not limited to client contracts, joint venture agreements, subcontracts, design agreements and other necessary documents.

Education

• A juris doctorate (JD) and admission into applicable state bar is required.

Minimum Work Experience

• Experience in the areas of litigation, contracts, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions.

• More than 10 years experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

• Experience in implementing new products, services, and procedures.

• Knowledge of construction concepts, practices, and procedures is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
