A Brief Overview
The Children's Hospital Additive Manufacturing for Pediatrics (CHAMP) 3d Labs aims to cultivate experience in additive manufacturing/3D design and implement these skills into collaborative opportunities throughout the hospital to create new models and devices. The CHAMP team collaborates with departments across the hospital on various models needed in areas such as medical training, patient education, surgical planning, and device development. This role will be a new addition to the CHAMP 3d Lab and core, the in-hospital additive manufacturing service.

Under the direction of the CHAMP Lab Manager and Physician Lead, the candidate will support the ongoing efforts of the CHAMP lab and Core. The junior engineer will serve as a CHAMP Lab and Core member. In the clinical setting, they will work to support surgical models with the conversion of radiology imaging into a 3d planning model. This will be in collaboration with radiologists, primary providers, and the surgical team to ensure accuracy and answer key planning questions. For education and research, they will support the intake and evaluation of requests in accordance with lab policy and engineering expertise. They will support the engineering design, project management, fabrication, time tracking/billing, and communication of the project to the requesting teams in addition to supporting distribution of work in terms of publications, grants, intellectual properties, and service documentation. Finally, they will support the daily maintenance of the CHAMP lab and Machines with the fabrication of the project, maintenance, upkeep of all machines, and tracking/ordering supplies.

The junior engineer should aim to bring their expertise in anatomy, engineering, and interpersonal skills to the team in order to grow medical additive manufacturing. At the same time, they should develop their professional skills in a clinical, educational, and research environment in a robust Radiology department. Junior engineer will work closely with Lab Manager/Core Director to grow engineering skills and support the lab in their absence.



What you will do

  • Perform clinical segmentation and design of surgical model in collaboration with radiologist and Providers.
  • Perform the engineering design, project management, fabrication, time tracking/billing, and communication of the project to the requesting teams
  • Aiding the distribution of work regarding publications, grants, intellectual properties, and service documentation, and participating in conferences and learning programs.
  • Participate in factory upkeep (maintaining, cleaning, and managing the repair of the 3D printer(s))
  • Sustain the daily maintenance of the CHAMP lab and Machines with the fabrication of the project, maintenance, upkeep of all machines, and tracking/ordering supplies
  • Contribute to the intake evaluation, project management, and billing process for the Core project with the Core Director.
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment and clearly communicate the technical status and challenges to non-technical teams
  • Collect data and run quality assurance processes as required for projects.
  • Work closely with the Lab Manager/Core Director to grow engineering skills and support the lab in their absence.
  • All other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or similar field of study Required - Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year additive manufacturing experience - Required
  • At least one (1) year clinical/ radiology experience - Preferred<
