About the role

Description

The Department of Humanities in Medicine (MHUM) at Texas A&M University College of Medicine seeks to fill one (1) academic professional track (non-tenure) position for a full time, 11-month appointment with an anticipated start date in the spring of 2025. Applications will be accepted at the rank of Instructional Professor, commensurate with qualifications, and will serve as the Interim Department Head for the Department of Humanities in Medicine.

The chosen candidate's academic responsibility will be in the area of administration, where they will represent the department to college and university administration. They also will represent the administration to the department and will be responsible for the pursuit and maintenance of excellence in the department. They will be a manager and leader with multiple responsibilities; they will to mentor, resolve conflict, build consensus, administer policies, manage departmental resources, and promote the scholarly activities of the faculty. They will oversee teaching, research and service activities of the department, including the recruitment, hiring and retention of faculty. They will speak for the department within and outside of Texas A&M University, will find ways to attract new sources of funding, promote a culture of scholarship (peer-reviewed publications), decide how to allocate resources, and will be responsible for seeing that students receive a quality education. Finally, using the department's recently completed self-study documents, they will review past accomplishments, benchmark to national and aspirational peers, and will recommend future directions/strategic goals for the department. Service as Interim Department Head of Humanities in Medicine is at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Medicine.

- Demonstrated experience as a department head at Texas A&M University
