U.S. Legal Reporter (Level 1 Journalist)
Thomson ReutersAbout the role
Reuters is seeking an experienced, tenacious and agile reporter to cover major U.S. litigation, with a focus on cases involving urgent questions of executive power and how their resolution could affect the law and the legal profession in the years to come. This Washington, D.C.-based journalist will be expected to produce stories at speed and in depth, ranging from breaking news to sophisticated analyses of legal developments. The reporter must be well-versed in a wide range of topics across the legal industry, with a proven background covering federal and state courts at all levels. The U.S. litigation story has never been so high-profile and fast-moving, and we expect this reporter to be as creative and adaptable as the moment demands.
The successful candidate must be able to work proactively, sourcing widely and taking ownership of multiple stories. He or she must have the flexibility to work across U.S. time zones to ensure Reuters is first, fair and accurate. We highly value reporters who are collegial and collaborative, and this journalist must have demonstrated ability to thrive in a complex news organization. The Reuters Legal team produces stories aimed at a variety of customers--legal professionals, financial professionals and general readers—and the reporter will be expected to understand the needs of all these audiences.
About the Role:

- Coordinate with editors and reporters covering the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court and other institutions and beats as needed.
- Come up with distinctive story ideas and execute them at a very high level of proficiency.
About You:
You will be a good fit for the role of U.S. Legal Reporter if you have:
- At least ten years’ experience covering law and litigation at a major news outlet.
