About the role

UVAFinance seeks applicants for the role of Business Systems Manager, to support the operational business systems needs of the department. Our mission is to help our UVAFinance colleagues solve business problems with technology in a way that is complementary to existing systems, enhances the capabilities of the organization, and which we can support technically and financially.  The incumbent will manage a team of systems administrators and analysts focused on the ecosystem of these non-Workday operational systems.  This ranges from enterprise licensed and supported software such as Microsoft O365 to departmentally licensed Salesforce to custom built applications like the T&E Card tracking system.  It includes responsibility for the departmental website, which is a hosted Drupal service that has been heavily customized. 

The Business Systems Manager will provide direction, technical leadership, creativity, and hands-on oversight in the analysis, design, architecture, planning, implementation, and ongoing support of the portfolio of business systems.  This entails consulting with functional teams to understand needs and challenges, and working to identify solutions that are practical, cost-effective, appropriate in the ecosystem, and supportable by the team.  The manager will be responsible for documenting systems to ensure business continuity, and maintaining a systems roadmap and architectural diagram that will serve as a communication tool across UVAFinance in support of change management.  

Reporting to the Director of Business Services and Systems, the Business Systems Manager will be part of a team of service managers who work together to lead and shape how UVAFinance delivers operational services.  This team includes the Business Services Manager (internal administrative operations), the User Success Manager (T1 helpdesk and support model), and the LSP Manager (staff computing support).   

Duties include: 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Business Services and Systems on the strategic vision for technology solutions and business systems at UVAFinance, driving continuous improvement in technology for the UVAFinance functional operations. 

  • Collaborate with the Business Systems Team to maintain a systems roadmap ensuring that the systems in the portfolio meet the functional needs of the organization, are appropriately integrated with other systems, and are supportable by the team. 

  • Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new opportunities in technology that may be analyzed, assimilated, and integrated to enhance operations within UVAFinance. 

  • Support the review and evaluation of technology requests by considering project feasibility, cost/benefit calculations, risk factors or situations, security, integration, implementation plans, development strategies, and supportability.  

  • Encourage and support the ongoing development and training of the Business Systems Team to ensure that the team is prepared to meet the technology needs of the organization. 

 

To be considered for the role candidates must possess the following:  

  • High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred 

  • 5 years of IT experience with progressive responsibilities and demonstration of leadership 

Required Knowledge/Skills:  

  • Previous work experience performing system administration in a CRM, CMS, and other enterprise systems. 

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and programming tools. 

  • Demonstrated experience with process management. 

  • Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications. 

  • Strong understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases, and data modeling. 

  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of software development lifecycle and quality control practices. 

  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications. 

  • Experience in a technical consulting capacity, communicating with both technical and non-technical clients.  This includes soft skills such as gathering requirements, managing expectations, negotiating, and conflict resolution. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through technical projects. 

  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrable experience in Salesforce implementations with strong expertise in Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Force.com.   

  • Demonstrable experience with Drupal CMS. 

  • Experience managing large-scale implementations of CRM solutions.
