We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Principal Scientist to join the Bioscience Asthma and Skin Immunity Early Respiratory & Immunology research group in Gaithersburg, and lead projects in the areas of respiratory and skin disease such as asthma and atopic dermatitis. In this role, you would be expected to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of enthusiasm for innovative scientific research leading to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. Ideally, you will have expertise in running drug development projects, and a strong immunology background.  Prior experience working in the pharmaceutical/biotech space is required, in addition to a good publication record. 


Accountabilities/Responsibilities

This job is a scientific leadership role, and you will have significant opportunity to drive the direction of drug projects. The ability to manage a drug project is critical.  A background in respiratory or skin disease, and basic immunology mechanisms is needed.

  • You will be responsible for leading drug projects, proposing and interrogating new targets, and mentoring junior scientists.

  • The role will be based in Gaithersburg where you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicine to help improve patient lives.

  • You will collaborate with scientists from a variety of functional teams in Gaithersburg and from our sites in Cambridge, UK and Gothenburg, Sweden.

  • You will benefit from daily interaction and collaboration with highly accomplished scientists and the position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment developing your career at the interface of research and drug discovery.

  • Encouragement and support will be provided to help you develop specialist knowledge and skill sets.

  • Presentation of your work internally and externally, and publication in high impact journals is expected.

Education

Minimum requirements:

An Ph.D. in Immunology, Biochemistry or a closely related field with at least 5 years of experience in biotech/pharma

  • Prior experience leading drug projects in biotech or pharma

  • Expertise in respiratory or skin diseas

Essential

  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively  in order to manage a team to conduct a high-level research project.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and academic experts

  • Excellent publication record and the ability to apply current scientific literature to projects.

Desirable

  • Effective contributing to collaborative projects involving cross-disciplinary and global teams.

  • Mentorship of junior scientists is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team building

  • Drive for constant personal development and increasing skill base.

This position is located in Gaithersburg, MD
