Job Description
The Staff Editor reports to the Executive Editor of the company Manuals
Department and has responsibility for the following:
Editorial quality for assigned sections of the company Manuals Professional and Consumer versions
Database management and maintenance to ensure content accuracy across digital platforms
PRIMARY ACTIVITIES
Edit chapters within assigned sections, following prescribed style, collaborating extensively with other staff editors and physician editors, and communicating as needed with authors and outside reviewers
Maintain and edit text in content management system
Review and manage placement of multimedia assets, such as videos or medical calculators
Review, edit, and have responsibility for additional areas of responsibility, such as editing or review of health literate or social media content
Prepare chapters for publishing and undertake user testing review of chapters
Participate in editors’ meetings and other internal meetings (on site and off site), as needed
Participate in Editorial Board Meetings (off site)
Participate in activities to promote The Manuals, such as attendance at national medical meetings, as needed
SKILLS
Required skills:
BA or BS, preferably in English (or other writing intensive course of study)
Demonstrated writing and editing skills (preferably with medical content)
Strong skills in organization, communication, and cross-functional collaboration
Desirable skills:
Demonstrated project management skills
Experience with content management and digital asset management processes and software
Experience working under tight deadlines
Familiarity with use, creation, and maintenance of internet or social media content for education and promotion
