Global Security: Armed Security Manager

About the role

The Global Security (GS) North America Physical Security team consists of a dynamic group of security professionals who are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for our employees, clients, and assets in our retail and corporate environments in North America. 

Reporting directly to the Global Security NYC Metro Corporate Security Director, the GS Armed Security Manager will be responsible for managing teams of proprietary security guards as they control access to JPMorgan Chase & Co. facilities or events, and for the protection of customers, employees, tenants, visitors, and assets in the Greater New York Region.  This responsibility includes direct oversight and performance management of the guard staff, delivery of appropriate training, completion of work schedules and staffing assignment reports, and other administrative duties. 

In this role, the employee will be required to complete additional specialized training and comply with licensing requirements and certifications necessary to carry a firearm as part of their duties.  The employee is expected to respond to emergency situations in a rapid manner and mitigate threats to JPMC personnel, property, and proprietary information.  The employee will assist the security team with coordination of high-profile events in JPMC Midtown Campus buildings, outside venues in the Greater New York Region, and at other locations across the United States on an “as needed” basis.  The employee will coordinate closely with event planning staff, local police, vendor-provided explosives detection canine support, facility management personnel, and other stakeholders as necessary. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee performance of proprietary and contract security guards
  • Interview, hire, and train security staff
  • Coach and appraise proprietary security officers
  • Evaluate proprietary staff's performance and provide continuous feedback on performance
  • Function as the shift or site supervisor at the assigned work location
  • Oversee the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of security staff
  • Assign security guards to special patrols as needed
  • Implement approved policy and procedural changes as required
  • Recommend security policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Recommend performance management initiatives
  • Demonstrate an understanding of security operations, the ability to provide exceptional customer service, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a daily operational setting
  • Comply with, and ensure subordinates comply with all established security operational policies and procedures
  • Participate in regularly scheduled firearms training and maintain firearms proficiency
  • On occasion, perform services of an armed security guard in emergency response situations or in any scenario as required by GS management
  • Control crisis situations
  • Visit other locations as emergencies occur, or if needed for special assignments
  • Transfer to a different shift, if required
  • Communicate operational issues and resolutions to facility management and contractual partners
  • Communicate to appropriate stakeholders in the event of any incident, accident, or potential situation of interest
  • Perform basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters, and electronic correspondence, interaction with others, and communication through telephone and meetings
  • Receive and review routine security logs and reports that document all security-related activities at the work location; follow through on resolving potential or existing Issues
  • Receive and review reports from staff on needed repairs and maintenance of security equipment and devices; follow through on resolving potential or existing issues

Qualifications/Certifications:

  • High School diploma and 10 years of relevant federal, state, or local law enforcement/military/security experience or undergraduate diploma in criminal justice or related field and 6 years of relevant federal, state, or local law enforcement/military/security experience
  • 4 years of experience in supervising others
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • New York State Armed Guard License
  • HR-218 Certification
  • Unrestricted Concealed Carry Handgun License, NYCPD

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of security protocol and procedures
  • Training in fire safety. CPR, and crime prevention
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on experience in performing risk analysis and identifying vulnerabilities
  • Knowledge of physical security technology systems
  • Strong familiarity with physical and procedural sec
