The Head Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Coach is responsible for the leadership and administration of the Lady Movin’ Mavs wheelchair basketball program, including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, and program operations. The position promotes academic achievement, competitive excellence, and student-athlete success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Coaching:
  • Organize and conduct practices, competitions, film sessions, and team meetings. 
  • Develop training plans and competitive strategies. 
  • Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes. 
  • Administer scholarship recommendations and roster management. 
  • Monitor academic progress and promote student-athlete success.
Program Administration and Operations:
  • Coordinate team travel, scheduling, equipment, apparel, and tournament participation
  • Manage program budgets and operational needs.
  • Coordinate camps, clinics, special events, volunteers, and interns. 
  • Maintain relationships with adaptive sports organizations and community partners. 
Fundraising and External Relations:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and alumni. 
  • Participate in fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship activities. 
  • Promote the program through community outreach and public appearances. 
University and Professional Engagement: 
  • Develop academic and research partnerships. 
  • Participate in university committees and campus initiatives. 
  • Represent UTA Athletics and Adaptive Sports at professional and community events.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of playing and/or coaching Wheelchair Basketball experience; any other combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Two (2) years’ experience with Head Coaching duties in Wheelchair Basketball.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting, program development, and mentoring student-athletes. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of wheelchair basketball rules, strategies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of NWBA regulations and adaptive sports programming.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes.
  • Ability to effectively teach and motivate student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with campus, community, and adaptive sports partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive student-athlete experience.
