About this role

What will you be responsible for?
This is a key position in the Total Rewards Center of Excellence and a member of the Total Rewards and People Systems and Services Leadership Team, that is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive global benefits strategy that aligns with our organizational objectives and attracts, retains and motivates top talent  across the globe.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
Strategic Planning

  • Develop a clear and comprehensive strategy for global benefits, ensuring alignment with business objectives, values and the employee experience model.
  • Establish and communicate the overarching philosophy and key principles that guide the design and implementation of global benefits.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in benefits design, providing expertise to Business Unit (BU) teams and ensuring adherence to established principles.

Collaboration

  • Collaboration is key to success in this role. The Director, Global Benefits will work closely with BU Total Rewards Directors, HR teams, business leaders, and other key stakeholders to ensure that benefits programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of employees across different global locations, while complying with local regulations and Newmont’s global standards and managing costs and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • The Director, Global Benefits will collaborate with the Health and Safety team to ensure that benefits programs contribute to a safe and healthy work environment and the overall wellbeing of our workforce. 

 Program Design and Management

  • Work closely with the Head of Global Compensation and Benefits to evaluate and assess benefits strategies, compliance, programs and needs from each BU and make data driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Review and sign off on new or modified benefits programs proposed by BU teams, ensuring they are competitive, cost-effective and in compliance, while aligned with industry best practices and Newmont’s global benefits strategy and principles. 
  • Provide guidance and support to BU’s during the benefits design process, offering guidance and expertise.
  • Oversee vendor selection, negotiation, and management to ensure the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective benefits services to our employees.
  • Define Global Benefits communications strategy, key tools and approaches.

Mergers and Acquisitions

  • Lead the benefits integration process for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, ensuring a smooth transition for employees and alignment with company standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of global benefits programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices, incorporating innovative approaches into the benefits strategy.

Your training, skills, & experience checklist

Here is what we need to see from you!
Education:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources and Employee Benefits; advanced degree in business is beneficial.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in global benefits management, with a deep understanding of benefits design, compliance, market trends and best practices across multiple countries.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing successful global benefits strategies within a multinational corporation. 
  • Expertise in designing Global Benefits programs, including health and  retirement plans, risk benefits and employee perks.
  • Mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy industry experience is preferred.
