Hospital EMS Coordinator serves as a liaison between the hospital, EMS providers, and other providers of emergency services. This role ensures the hospital teams respond quickly and efficiently to emergency needs. The EMS Coordinator position would include striving to improve the quality of services our hospitals provide by building stronger relationships, improving patient outcomes, and increasing communication with local EMS and Fire departments.

Responsibilities

• Act as a liaison and maintain a positive relationship between the hospital and the area of EMS providers.
• Serves as an advocate of the hospital with local, regional, and state EMS agencies.
• Works with local EMS agencies to facilitate performance improvement and quality review.
• In cooperation with Emergency Department leadership, establish and maintain reports and statistics to hospital leadership concerning EMS issues.
• Promotes special care capabilities of the hospitals to local EMS providers.
• Provide timely EMS follow-up to improve patient care in the pre-hospital setting.
• Provide training/CME opportunities with providers and service lines geared for the EMS provider or agency.

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

• Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.

• Knowledge of EMS functions and Regional EMS protocols.

• Knowledge of Emergency Department and hospital business and planning skills.

• Ability to provide follow-up with EMS partners.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate degree as an RN or Paramedic.
• 5 years of RN or Paramedic experience with EMS, Emergency Department, or Fire Department strongly preferred.

Licenses Required

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

• One of the following
  • Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
