The Senior Environmental Engineer role will oversee regulatory gap analysis to ensure all operations comply with current regulations. The role will manage the strategic permit planning and preparation of permit applications, ensuring timely submissions. The role will include conducting multi-media environmental audits and assessments, providing comprehensive compliance support and reporting. Additionally, the role will negotiate with regulatory agencies to secure permits and develop tools and standards to reduce environmental liability and risk. The role oversees a team of individual contributors and drives them towards achieving significant objectives that influence the overall unit or organization. The role makes informed decisions based on company policies, procedures, and pre-established unit objectives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a regulatory gap analysis to identify opportunities for improvement in compliance activities and permit processes.
- Prepare and review permit applications, ensuring they adhere to the relevant policies and legal requirements.
- Drive strategic permit planning to foster long-term compliance with environmental regulations.
- Lead multi-media environmental audits and assessments, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Provide compliance support and reporting to all relevant stakeholders.
- Negotiate with agencies to ensure compliance while simultaneously advocating for organizational interests.
- Implement strategies to reduce environmental liability and risk, safeguarding the organization's reputation and legal standing.
- Issue and develop tools and standards for compliance, permitting procedures, and environmental risk reduction.
- Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and accountability.
- Oversee workload planning, performance management, and team operations to align resources with business objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Skills and Competencies

- Broad knowledge of compliance, permitting procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Proficient in strategic planning, regulatory gap analysis, and risk reduction strategies.

- Strong communication and presentation skills with clients across different industries.
Experience
- Typically, a minimum of 8 years of related work experience in compliance & permitting management or related field is required.
- Experience in leading a team of individual contributors and driving them towards achieving significant objectives.
- Typically certified in the SMS Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, law, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
