About the role

Job Summary

Responsible for the leading the Software Engineering team with design, testing, certification, and ongoing engineering support of all aspects of embedded and application software for FAA certified single engine aircraft and related product offerings.  

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will be writing software and managing a small nimble team of talented aerospace software engineers for specific embedded programs.  

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, the Supervisor of Software Engineering is responsible for the leading the software engineering team tasked with design, testing, certification, and ongoing engineering support of all aspects of aircraft electrical systems. Technical areas include component-level embedded software, aircraft-level system software, and customer-facing mobile device applications. You will implement software design methodologies and development processes, ensuring consistent and appropriate designs and engineering processes are utilized across all Cirrus projects, driving safe, reliable, and cost-effective software solutions. You will review and guide creation of certification plans and reports to meet 14 CFR Part 23 requirements.
  • The Supervisor of Software Engineering is responsible for progression and coaching of less experienced engineers, resource allocation, staffing, and performance reviews. This individual supports the Director of Software Engineering with budget planning and control, resource/project planning, and maintaining awareness of key deliverables and schedule milestones. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of fostering individual engagement and initiative, driving improvements to engineering process, and implementing design methodologies resulting in superior technical design and enhanced team productivity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
  • 8+ years total relevant experience
  • 0-4 years leadership experience
  • Leading teams of 5 or more software developers working on multiple complex projects
  • Aircraft or component level software development and certification to 14 CFR Part 23 using DO-178C and DO-254
  • Development of company processes for DO-178C and DO-254 certification activities
  • Development of embedded software applications.
  • Use of software development, test, and verification tools
  • Use of requirements management tools
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with superiors, colleagues, and staff
  • Ability to work both independently and within a cross-functional team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Project)
