Job Summary
We are growing at West Bend! Our Commercial Underwriting team plays a critical role in our journey towards profitable growth. Our Underwriters are relationship focused with strong communication skills, motivated, and work in a fast-paced team environment. West Bend is an industry leading carrier that works solely through the independent agency system. We are looking for the right individual to join our team!
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Under the direction of an Underwriting Manager or Director, accountable for the management of an assigned group of Underwriters and/or Endorsement Technicians.
- The team may consist of home office or field associates, as well as a geographic territory.
- Foster agency relationships in assigned territory, through in person travel.
- Oversee the acceptance, declination, and pricing of risks. Counsel and mentor assigned group of Underwriters on complicated risks and review underwriting decisions on risk exceeding their authority.
- Accountable for profitable growth and performance of book of business.
- Make recommendations or implement underwriting guidelines or pricing adjustments when appropriate. Responsible for the training and mentoring of associates, as well as initiating personnel actions such as salary adjustments, performance evaluations, promotions, etc.
*** Due to the nature of this position, it will be located out of our West Bend, Madison or Appleton office with occasional work from home opportunities
Preferred Experience and Skills
- 5-7 years in commercial multi-line Underwriting
- Leadership skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others
- Strong analytical and communication skills
Preferred Education and Training
- Bachelors degree in Business, Insurance or related field
- Completion of Associate in Underwriting program and CPCU designation
