UIC Science Field Support Technician

Summary:

 

UIC Science provide field support for scientists, military, and media clients working in and around Utqiaġvik. UIC Science operates a rental fleet of snowmachines, ATVs, and trucks, as well as three lodging facilities, warehouse/staging space, and laboratory space.  The Field Support Technician will work as part of the UIC Science field operations team during peak season to manage fleet rentals, building maintenance, and general support tasks as needed.

 

Essential Functions

• Supporting UIC Science field operations during peak season
• Maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles
• General support of field operations
• Working as part of a team
• Record keeping and note taking
• Other duties as needed

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

• Operating ATVs, snowmachines, and trucks
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently

Required Experience:

• Previous maintenance or laborer experience strongly preferred
• Remote hunting or camping being out on the ice or land

Responsibilities

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions
• US Fish and Wildlife Service Bear Guard certification strongly preferred

Qualifications

Authorized Driver Requirement Authorized Driver Requirement:  Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

 

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
