About the role

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Strategic Sourcing and Procurement team and has an opportunity for a Strategic Sourcing Analyst. The Procurement Analyst is an entry-level position focused on executing daily administrative tasks, managing purchase orders and requisitions, and supporting the procurement function across the organization. This role is designed to provide foundational experience in procurement operations, with an emphasis on developing the skills and abilities of a Strategic Sourcing Specialist.

Key responsibilities include managing group email inbox tasks, processing change orders, resolving invoice discrepancies, and assisting with contract renewals. The position also involves close collaboration with the Accounts Payable/Finance department to ensure smooth financial operations, including invoice resolution and budget management.

In addition, the Procurement Analyst will support the management of promotional goods and inventory, track procurement activities, and assist in spend analytics. As part of this role, the analyst will gain exposure to procurement systems and strategic sourcing processes, building a solid foundation for advancing in procurement and sourcing functions over time.

Compensation

$23.00 - $27.30

Non-exempt Grade 12

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid.  All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What you’ll do

  • Assist in procurement operations, including administrative support for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, change orders, and other activities to meet business requirements.
  • Negotiate and manage routine supplier agreements, minimizing risk in external relationships.
  • Understand business needs and foster a collaborative environment with key stakeholders.
  • Support or execute sourcing events and reduce external spend through competitive bidding processes.
  • Schedule meetings between business areas and suppliers for demonstrations or issue resolution as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and practices.
  • Build relationships with business areas to support strategic initiatives and ensure alignment.
  • Provide regular updates and reports as needed to stakeholders.
  • Utilize procurement, sourcing, and inventory systems (e.g., Workday) for preparing contracts, purchase orders, and competitive bids.
  • Assist with supplier onboarding and develop prospective supplier lists for projects.
  • Explore alternative sources for goods and services to meet business needs.
  • Maintain positive supplier relations and manage issues such as delays or miscommunications.

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Entry level - 0-2 years experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Solid understanding of procurement processes and best practices, with a focus on administrative tasks related to purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Working knowledge of Source-to-Pay (S2P) software, with familiarity in using procurement systems like Workday.
