About the Position

Please Note:  This is a full-time, 11/12 pay plan position. The Physician will work eleven months with the salary for those eleven months' work paid in twelve equal installments.

The Physician is an integral part of the Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS).  The Physician participates in the daily operational and practical needs of SHCS, primarily performs medical diagnostic and treatment activities, and participates in practitioner peer review staff educational and administrative meetings as needed. The incumbent will also assist SHCS in its on-going preparation for re-accreditation and HIPAA compliance as well as provide health education and participate in teaching activities.

The incumbent will have regular contact with blood, blood products and bodily fluids as well as communicable diseases.  There may also be some contact with physical and chemical hazardous materials, such as liquid nitrogen, TCA, etc.  Routine exposure to needles and sharp objects is to be expected. The incumbent must be able to respond to on-campus medical emergencies which may require walking outdoors several blocks carrying medical equipment or driving a minivan. This position may require occasional coverage at CSU East Bay’s Concord campus.

The incumbent must be willing to comply with local and state laws governing CSU practices, be able to perform within the full spectrum of their specialty and comply with rules and regulations presented within their respective department(s).

Responsibilities

Treatment - Provide a full range of outpatient medical care to Cal State East Bay students, including basic health care and some augmented health services:

  • Examine, diagnose and treat general medical problems.
  • Evaluate complex medical problems, order special tests as indicated; carry out special examinations based on training.
  • Interpret laboratory results, electrocardiograms and initial x-ray results.
  • Provide primary medicine consultation to nurses, and other ancillary staff, if requested.
  • Provide consultation as needed in areas such as: preventive medicine, health education, environmental health and safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Refer patients to in-house, community consultants and other medical facilities for medical problems beyond the scope of services of the SHCS and provide appropriate follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with management on how to best meet the health care needs of the Cal State East Bay community.
  • Assist in medical emergencies and provide first aid care to all students, employees and visitors of Cal State East Bay.
