Job Description

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Apply expertise in large (50 to 300 MVA) synchronous machines, in theory, operation, and installation to develop and optimize synchronous condenser solutions. Experience in synchronous condenser applications is preferred, but generator or motor application is also acceptable.

  • Support sales and business development activities in pre-RFQ stages by presenting Synchronous Condenser offerings to prospective customers and discuss possible solutions that fit the customer requirements.

  • Support the preparation of tender packages for synchronous condenser solutions.

  • Analyze customer requirements; perform technical and commercial analysis to optimize system design and synchronous condenser machine selection.

  • Coordinate synchronous condenser system designs with machine factories and power system consultants.

  • Conduct necessary calculations for equipment selection in synchronous condenser projects, including load (var) flow, short-circuit, and insulation coordination. Utilize Excel-based tools or specialized power systems software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP, EasyPower, ASPEN OneLiner).

  • Specify and select major plant items, such as GCBs, cooling systems, starting pony motors, and GSU transformers.

  • Perform site assessments for prospective synchronous condenser locations and adapt designs to fit within site constraints.

  • Participate in technical contract negotiations with prospective customers.

  • Conduct quality reviews of bid packages to maximize submittal quality.

  • Perform system studies to support synchronous condenser projects, and/or coordinate and review study work from external consultants

  • Understanding of grid-forming controls and virtual synchronous machine algorithms.

  • Participation in industry working groups (IEEE, Cigre, IEC).

  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, with the ability to engineer design packages without explicit customer specifications.

  • Aptitude or experience in complex system-level studies of power systems involving grid problems relevant to FACTS solutions.

  • Proficiency in using electrical system modeling software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, EasyPower, ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP) for complex studies.

  • Experience in designing and executing solutions utilizing FACTS technology.

  • Prepare documentation and maintain a knowledge database of technical design processes, issues, and resolution outcomes.

  • Experience in installation, field-testing, and commissioning of HV equipment, with a commitment to safe work habits.

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
